Would leaving a job for three months cause an employee to lose the job? (See explanation below)?

A friend has an opportunity to be on a reality show about NASCAR race car drivers.. This would fulfill one of the dreams of his life. BUT he has a good job as a subcontractor for a large corporation. He might lost his contracts. BUT, he has passed one screening, and if he makes the final audition and gets on the show it may give him the career in racing he has always dreamed of. WHAT WOULD YOU DO????

Subcontractors can always make new contracts. I'd do it if I where him. There is usually a slow season for contractors hopefully the three months will be in that time frame.

Don't hold him back! If this is a dream of his, support him and hopefully he'll win. He'll be lots happier if he makes the cut and has plenty of time left in life to go back to subcontractor.

Ask for a leave of absence from the company.

If that's not possible, weigh the opportunity against the stability.

I would have to go with the reality show. A once in a lifetime opportunity.

If I had a chance to follow my dream I would go for it no matter what, besides this could open more and possibly better doors for him

Life is full of risks and full of give and take. To chase his dream, he may have to risk sacrificing some of the things he has now.

  • He should go for it. He can always build his business back after the show is over. He'll regret it the rest of his life if he doesn't, and will always wonder "what if...?"
