Yahoo/Google privacy question?

I did a Google search using somebody else's computer. Is there any way I can clear it so that when they type a few letters, my search won't auto-text up?

There are both local and possibly remote caches of your search. The local caches can be cleared in firefox by with a ctrl-shift-del, and delete the entries in Explorer using the procedure Bryn suggests.

However, if the person whose computer you used is a google user, then google might be caching the searches also. This allows a google user to go from machine to machine. Google calls this remote cache the user's search-history. Removing items from Google's search-history for a user requires logging in to that user's google account, selecting the search-history item, and then selectively using the remove-item link on the left of the screen. The key is you will have to log in to the user's google account to do this. You don't have to be logged in to the google account to add to the user's search-history. However, google has to know whose user account to add the search to. If there is no name in the top-right corner of the main Google search page, then google doesn't know who did the search. If there is a name then google will store the search result.

Google uses javascript code to auto-fill the search field depending upon what is stored in the search-history.

Searching for porn eh? Nah, just kidding. If you are using internet explorer then you can hit Ctrl+H and clear the history there.
