Why aren't more people freaked out by GMO foods?
I seriously do not understand why people are ignoring and allowing our food supplies and other plants to be altered without a protest. Doesn't it bother anyone that the long term effects are not known or that even the short term effects aren't well understood?
Why don't people demand to know what is in their food?

Most people are barely aware of what GMO (genetically modified organism) foods are, or that the US government allows most GMO foods to be sold without a GMO label. The really scary part of GMO comes-in, however, when we mix genes between organism that NEVER would have been able to cross-breed in nature. That is some freaky stuff.
On the other hand, though, no one actually knows if there ARE long-term effects of GMO foods. You could also argue that humans have been geneticly modifiying their foods for thousands of years through selective breeding. All of the major food crops and food animals we consume today are VERY different, genetically speaking, then their pre-domesticated ancestors. Modifying an organisim's genome is just a more efficient process than selective breeding.
Another point is that there is little evidence that even the freakiest genetic mix will ever harm you. Don't you realize that your body consumes thousands of genes a day? From the meat in your hamburger to the leaves in your salad, to the bacteria dying in your gut every minute. Your body is constantly exposed to and digesting the genes of other organisms. From your body's perspective, there is not difference between a natural gene and a modified gene... it is all just chemical junk left-over from dead cells that needs to be cleaned up.

Mainly because people don't care or know about it, no one has gotten up to inspire the crowds of people to do this. Whenever there is a cause that must be directed there is always a leader for it. Besides that we have been eating and drinking GMO foods for 50 years I doubt food companies would stand by and stop.

1.Because they are too lazy too find out if what they are eating are GMOs ("they taste the same, sometimes even better")
2. Because food companies deny it
3. Because people usually ignore the long term effects of consuming such products, coz they don't notice them right on.(they dont have immediate effects that's why ppl dont find them treathening)
