Anti-Piracy question?
What tricks does microsoft use to spy on our downloads? How about my ISP, comcast? Hypothetically speeking, if I download songs off limewire, whats going to get me caught? If one is downloading music, should they use someone elses wireless connection? If one processes the media info, to get the song titles right, will that tip off microsoft to potential piracy? Whats the penalty for having stolen music?

Microsoft doesn't spy on your downloads and they have no jurisdiction over the illegal things you may or may not do on your computer unless it involves the piracy of one of their products. Your ISP can log everything you view and everything you download, but this information isn't kept around for long and is usually only checked in response to a police investigation. Downloading music isn't really going to get you caught by anyone - it's sharing a large amount of files that will. There are quite a few penalties for music piracy, usually monetary fines and rarely jail time.

That's just stupid as hell. Just stupid.
The penalty is a hefty fine, but one way to avoid detection is to use a proxy server. But that sacrifices a lot of bandwidth.

yea it is your ip address. you should know that when you download while you use microsoft, linux, or mac you might just one day get caught and fined a lot of money.
