Good for you.....Better yet, if you're really serious about this, join a bible study and commit to it for 4 or 5 months. Generally, they meet once per week and only for 2 hours, sometimes less. It's really, really helpful to have other folks present because talk and debate ensue on what verses you read that week and you gain a much greater understanding. Go with an open mind and you will be very surprised at how much you will learn.

its nice to have open minded people here. your question was a change because it wasnt stated like this " to make you bible thumpers happy ill read your stupid book" like most peoples answers. i believe in the bible, but not how some people inturpret it. im praying for you that will always stay open minded like you are and do not let the other people on this site get you down. but may i suggest that you get a bible that is understandable to read because sometimes the bible is very confusing. have a nice day! -hetty,age 11

Good decision ! I'm 42, my 11 yr old son started reading the Bible a few years back on his own. I don't push Religion on my kids, I let them choose, and they both have chosen to be Christian.

Better yet, read a book about biblical history - it will make the bible more interesting, and will "open your eyes" to what others do not see, or are unwilling to see.

Since you have an open mind also include in your reading books on other religions, history, evolution and psychology...But most important, don't suspend your common-sense...either god or mother nature (the evolutionary one) gave you intelligence...make sure you use it....not wishful thinking...good luck

Just seems odd that you'd read a bible to your children for lessons from it, especially if you don't believe in it. Why not just teach them to be good people?

    Good for you!

Don't get flustered when you get to that section where someone "begets" someone ad infinitum... Just take that with a grain of salt since it's your basic genealogy of names only. Enjoy the stories in the Old Testament. LOL.

Otherwise, I do hope you will find the Words of Wisdom that it is intended to instill...

    Peace be with you!

How do you know if you believe it or not if you haven't studied it yet?
