What's better for wool blankets -- hand washing or dry cleaning?
Reading other posts on Yahoo Answers and just looking around the web generally, there's a consistent recommendation to dry clean as a first choice for wool. But I've also heard that dry cleaning can shorten the life of wool and of course it's well accepted that dry cleaning is environmentally harmful.
So what's wrong with delicate washing and is dry cleaning really better?
I guess part of the thinking is that wool is a relatively natural substance. So is water. Petrolyeum hydrosuperchemical (or whatever it is) isn't. There must be a good way to clean it without alteration -- sheep don't shrink when it rains, after all ;-).

hand washing is the best option, and use less detergent and rinse thoroughly and dry it under shade.

My husband has a wool blanket that his father received in 1989 (at least that's the date on it in big green letters). I throw it in the washer on delicate and it has never shrunk.

take it to a dry cleaner and ask them, they can offer you regular laundry services and dry cleaning...i think dry cleaning would extend the life, not lessen it

Um if you wash it yourself it will SHRINK. I know from experience.
