Shorts out computer?

When I plug my camera into the front port of my HP, I see a spark and the computer shuts completely off. The back ones work fine. What is happening here and why?

Since it works on the rear port, that indicates that something is wrong with the front port.

If it is under warranty, I would notify HP for repair. If not, either use just the rear port, or have a local shop replace the front port.

Actually, I remember this happening on my Dell. At some point, A piece of the port was taken out (Sorry I'm not good with the technical aspects of putting a computer together, but I know what to do when they are put together.) It's completely an electrical issue. There is too much power going to your USB port. My Computer never shut off, it just came up with a message saying that there was too much power in USB Port.

If you don't mind losing the port, then you can just use the others. If not, you'd have to send it to HP to get it repaired.

It's a short-circuit somewhere. Your PC shuts down because the power source has a protection against short-circuits. Try to figure out what is causing the short-circuit.

Ask a technician to look for it. Probably there is an open wire inside your computer. Good luck.

I suggest you take your PC in and have it checked over.

One spark too many, and you mave have an expensive peice of useless hard ware.

solid state electrical components will blow if stressed to much
