I don't know where you live in Texas, but California is extremely expensive for the cost of living. Look at www.craigslist.org for the area you are considering and look at the rents. That should give you a big eye opener right there.

Don't let the cost scare you away from your dream, but go in prepared with a back up plan and some skills to get a decent job through the lean times. Good luck!

Sure Cali is nice, you cant beat the weather here. But you sure as hell aint gonna find the hospitality that exists in Texas. Most people are quite materialistic and self-absorbed in Cali. But seeing as how you are interested in the entertainment industry with dreams of being one of ten thousand other famous singer/ actress/model aspirers, you might just fit in fine. You really ought to go to a good acting school first, and try your hand at Theatre, so you can really learn how to act. But that would mean moving to New York, ie Broadway, and not Cali. Whatever you do don't fall into the porn industry, stay away from Simi Valley, if you have any hopes of being a respected star. It does not work well for most. Really most actors start out in commercials at much younger then 18, but hey, good luck.

you can move, but research it first. cali is a lot more expensive to live and the odds of you making it any time soon with acting or singing are slim. so you would have to find a job that would allow you to make enough to cover the bills and be flexible to get you to auditions. plus, just getting out of high school you have not seen enough of the world to just up and go out on your own. the OC and Laguna Beach do not portray cali as it really is. a better idea would be to get your degree first and then pursue acting/singing during your studies or after. if you can get into a university in cali, that would get you closer to your goals without making a huge sacrifice while so fresh in the world. talk to your parents and your guidance counselor at school for your options, there are so many ways to achieve your dreams without making life extremely difficult.

    GO!!!!!!

My job moved me here to Houston about a week after Katrina. I grew up in Los Angeles, and I can safely say that Houston sucks for things to do.

The weird thing about Houston is that my girlfriend and I both get paid more doing what we do here than in CA. Combine that with the cost of housing, and we're able to afford a better house, and have cool things to keep our minds off of what little there is to do here (new Nissan Z & Titan, new motorcycles, tons of money blown on house interior decorating).

Problem is, we'd both trade all this stuff to be able to drive to Santa Monica in 1 hour, Las Vegas in 4-5 hours, San Francisco in 6. We'd definitely trade this stuff to be able to be outside all year round, instead of hiding from the heat and humidity of the 10 month summers here. There's Disneyland, Magic Mountain, Knott's Berry Farm, and other amusement parks there (vs. zilch here).

You'll definitely be shelling out more cash for moving out there, though. I was paying $650 to be able to walk from my temporary apartment to my job in Greenway Plaza when I first moved here, and now I'm paying about $1400 for mortgage. In LA, we were paying $1100 for RENT in an apartment that was about 1 hour driving from work.

As far as the entertainment industry, if that's what you want to do, you HAVE to be in LA. Just be sure to line yourself up with work before you get there so you don't struggle so badly. You CAN make it without hitting it big there. My girlfriend knew a 40'sh man who made living all of his life as an extra on sets. He was able to survive well on doing extra work all his life.

Good luck! Wish I was going. It'd be even better to be able to live in LA with all of the extra loot I was able to accumulate here.

PS: Simi Valley's not the center of the porn industry. It's Chatsworth.

i'm going going back back to cali cali...

um, sorry. find out about what the state has to offer. are you going to college in cali? do you have relatives there though? i do know that it is hard making friends in a new place.

of course, please don't go to south central l.a., compton, oakland, inglewood and such places.

think about everything i've said, then make your decision.

    Cali is way over-rated.
