is it cheaper to buy internal thailand flights in thailand?
my girlfriend and i are travelling from bangkok to chang mai by bus and then flying from chang mai to koh samui and koh samui to bangkok. We want to know whether it is cheaper to wait until we are over there to buy the flights than trying to do it over the net now. We go in march so are wanting to organise ourselves ready.
Any help is really appreciated

I have been to Thailand and hands down your best bet is to wait till you get there to book your flights for 2 GREAT reasons. First, you will save a little bit of money by booking directly at the airport the day you fly. The more important reason is you might fall in love with a part of Thailand and not want to leave. Having non-refundable flight tickets will be an expensive thorn if you chose to stay and fly later. Depending on how long you will stay, i'd think you should limit your stay on Samui b/c it has become over run with McDonalds, Starbucks and is generally trashy. Go to Koh Phangan, where the beaches are pristine, relaxing and here you can experience a "real" adventure. I stayed at the Sanctuary. Any water taxi will know what you are talking about if you say it.

It all depends, generally flights bought once you get here (Thailand), will be cheaper. March is not a real heavy tourist month, although it is considered to be "high" season here. I think you'll find that Bangkok Airways is the only carrier in and out of Samui (they also own the airport-the only one) and the fare to Koh Samui will be high, as they have a monopoly. Also many airlines are much cheaper when you buy advance tickets, rather than last minute tickets. Check out AirAsia(AirAsia.com) as they have great fares to and from Chiang Mai and Bangkok. I think you'll find Thai Airways to be much more expensive. I personally would book before you go, as all the Asian airlines have websites that let you check out the prices from home, and that way you won't have to worry making travel deadlines once you're here. Good luck!

Thai & Bangkok Airways aren't cheap, but I'm pretty sure Bangkok Airways are the only ones to fly to Samui (they own the airport). Is would be cheaper to Fly to Surat Thani then get the bus/boat over.
The main budget airlines are Air Asia, one2go and Nok Air, they all have English websites but you can say your location is Thailand.

From what I recall Airasia and one2go definately have cheaper seats available for earlier booking, so you might save by booking early.
If you have to fly to Samui then it's only Bangkok Airways you can book with - so most of this is useless!
Have a good trip though, Thailand is a beautiful country!

When i went i just went to the airport and got a flight, it was cheap, if i remember it was about £30 for the flight from Bangkok to any of the islands. We got our accomodation to when we got there, all we booked here was the flights out & back, everything else was booked while we were there.

your best bet is to look online for ticket prices. Lots of low cost airlines fly those routes in Thailand. Try Asian Air, it's cheap. Or go Thai Airways.

Better and cheaper if you buy over there.
