Does it anger you when people post questions about a pet instead of taking them to the doctor?

It angers me when people post questions about a seriously ill pet with symptoms that they have to know are serious. Why aren't they calling their vet's office instead of posting. A good vet will tell you if they need to be seen immediately or can wait. And what you should do in the mean time. I can see posting questions about a condition or something you have already seen the vet for and are just asking further information or for people who have had similar situations. But it angers me that there are so many ignorant pet owners many of whom probably don't even have a good relationship with a vet or even know basic information about dogs.Every pet owner should educate themselves about their pet including species, etc. That is basic common SENSE.

Update:

It's been great knowing I'm not the only one who feels this way, I was starting to think there were a vast majority of people who didn't care about their pets!

Thanks all!

Oh and Pale Rider, it became my business when they posted a question about their pet.

Update 2:

I sympathize with the owners who 'can't afford' to treat their pet, but really isn't it just as true that if you can't afford to take care of your pet you shouldn't own one. And there is low cost quality pet insurance a few dollars a month is worthwhile if you know a big vet bill would keep you from taking your 'best friend' to the vet. There are also many vets who will offer sliding scale fees to people with low income.

I agree. If your pet is vomiting blood or has been hit by a car, common sense (and love for the animal) would tell you to bring it to a vet. The not-so-serious symptoms such as "my cat won't use the litterbox" or "my dog ate a small piece of chocolate" are more appropriate for this page.

But there are a lot of people out there that take in pets, despite the fact that they are not financially ready. Those are probably the people posting questions as well as the younger users.

I feel you, but whatcha gonna do? These people have found themselves as a pet owner some way or another, so we put up with their cluelessness and help out. Afterall, that's what Answers is for. I'd assume that if enough people answered with "BRING IT TO THE VET" the message may get across and they'll listen.

Yes, it would be nice for people to consult their vets. I do believe that when it goes to animal care, people don't want to spend the money. They seem to think their pets will be healthy all the time and when they are not, they expect everyone else to help them out. People see cute and cuddly babies and they seem to think that they will always be that way.

I have been following the horses and I have been utterly surprised to see SO MANY horses that are thrown into pastures and that are never fed. Recently, a horse had been taken in by a rescue group with a minus 1 score. In 2 months, the horse has gained 500 pounds and it is still extremely skinny. It's score has climbed to a 2 or 3 which is still real bad.

I can't believe the amount of abandonment that goes on with animals. After the animal has grown up or gotten old, they are suddenly dumped somewhere to fend for themselves. And the sad part is; most die.

People are stupid and most shouldn't be allowed to own pets. I think everyone should be required to take some sort of competency test before being allowed to get a pet. It is really sad to hear about all the animals suffering needlessly all because of human ignorance.

This upsets me as well, and the ppl that end up giving advise. You never know when someone may be full of sh**. But it angers me more when I see posts like this about children, these ppl should just make the call to the professional that knows and is being payed to do this job. I always get on there and say "please just call your doc." its the only real answer for these types of questions. Merry Christmas!

it seems a majority or pet owners are on the shallow end of the gene pool. They can't take care of themselves and want something to take care of. They don't think of the upkeep involved for a pet.

I grew up on a farm and know the time and attention it takes for any animal and I currently don't have any pets because I don't want to invest the time

I agree. It is ok to ask questions about skin conditions or runny noses, but when they know it is a serious condition they need to be calling a vet and not looking for advice which could be wrong about their pet.

i know, one day there was a post about a dog getting hit by a car and what they should do, i mean, come on!!! i can see asking a question about the occasional loose stool or vomiting or just acting weird, we all have our days when we just dont feel well.

i think people need to answer their own questions in the mannor : i the dog was human and had this problem, what would i do?

i mean, come on, its not that different than if your dog was your child, ya know?

Yes! It's one thing to ask if a behaviour is normal or not but if your dog is bleeding or your cat has just been hit by a car get hell off Yahoo! answers and take them to a damn vet!

i don't like it when people want animals and then don't take care of them..If you are going to own a pet make sure you have the money to take care of them..Pets should be treated as if they are your kids..not just something there to look at...
