If you've seen Borat (I just did)...?

..Tell me what you thought about it:

To you, was it funny, offensive, illuminating, etc., all or none of the above?

(My own opinion is that some of the humor worked, and that SB Cohen is very talented, but I don't believe that this movie was a good satire, or that it discovered anything of real value - as so many people and reviewers claim it does)

I can write much more about this, but it's your turn ...

Yes, I saw it. I loved it and I'll buy it on DVD. It was quite possibly the most offensive movie I have ever seen! It was really hilarious. So, yes, it was offensive, and it was funny. It is not for people who take life too seriously. Surely, not everyone will appreciate the humor or even find it humerous. Only us warped individuals. LOL. Nobody can walk away from this movie without having been genuinely offended AT LEAST once in the movie. The best part of it for me was the reaction of the people who had no idea they were in a comedy sketch. It's like one long Candid Camera that uses offensive stereotypes as the bait. I felt really bad for some of the people though...The Jewish couple, the people at the dinner party... but others were just TOO funny...the feminists in particular. It was like watching a train wreck. Even the scenes that made me feel bad were still funny. Even the ones that offended me made me laugh in a horrified sort of way. I think people can read into it if they want to. You see the ridiculousness of anti-semitism and racial stereotypes. You see in an over-the-top way how stupid the denegration of women can be, and take an in-your-face look at social class structure (the dinner party and the...ahem..."friend"...not to give too much away). It's all there. But more than that, it's a check-your-brain-at-the-door- and-get-ready-for-a-wild-ride movie that you probably shouldn't try to think too hard about. Not for the faint at heart.

Clooth was right. It was pretty juvenile...but SO funny! When I want to be challenged intellectually, I'll watch a real documentary. But if you go to Borat to try to learn something, you've probably missed the point.

Ethan, Thanks for the tortoise line! That was really funny! "Is it a cat in a hat?" LOL!!!

It is both. It draws a fine line between being funny and racist. I think overall the thing that saves it is that Cohen (the actor who plays Borat) wrestles that naked fat man... I think that someone who does that can't be taken seriously no matter how insulted you think you ought to feel. Overall I would say it was a very good film which I did laugh out loud several times while watching... but I still felt slightly soiled by watching it.

I think it is one of the funniest films I've seen, I think also of the humor was "stupid funny" but other parts i think made some good points. The fact the people weren't fazed when he asked "what kind of gun is best to kill a Jew?". is some interesting to me. I think its only funny if you can get over the offensiveness. I think the 10min naked fight worked, you didn't want to look but couldn't look away caz you might miss some thing. When the guy fell of the stage, that was funny I've been laughing about that for days.

I thought it was offensive, but a little funny. Not the best movie I've ever seen for sure. i wouldn't reccomind it to friends, in fact I've told a few people to not waste their money. But, overall, it had no real meaning. There were parts that made me laugh I will admit. The whole concept of the film just seems dumb to me. I still dont know how I was conned into going.

My teenage son thought it was the best comedy ever made. I thought it was pretty funny myself. You have to be into that offensive, stupid-funny type thing to enjoy it. I laughed out loud several times, but my son was laughing so hard his stomach muscles hurt for days and he's an active boy.

It was amusing but disturbing at the same time. He went way to far when he was rolling around with that fat nakid guy. Eww I didn't wish to see any of that.

The part where he has the bear in the ice cream truck and the kids coming running up to it then in a split second turn and run away in sheer fear.... CLASSIC!!

Kazakhstani TV personality Borat is dispatched to the United States to report on the "greatest country in the world." With a documentary crew in tow, Borat becomes more interested in locating and marrying Pamela Anderson than on his assignment.

Borat: Jak sie masz? My name Borat. I like you. I like sex. Is nice!

Borat: We just a couple of pimps, no ho's.

Borat: Pamela! I no find you attractive anymore!... NOT!

Borat: You telling me the man who try to put a rubber fist in my anus was a homosexual?

Borat: May George Bush drink the blood of every man, woman and child in Iraq!

Borat: My moustache still tastes of your testes!

Borat: This my mother. She is oldest woman in ALL of Kuzek! She is 42!Uhh... this my wife, Oxanna... she is boring.

Oxanna: What? What? What did you tell them about me you skinny piece of ****? Why don't you do something useful and dig your mama a grave! You tall piece of ****!

Borat: What kind of dog is this?

    Zookeeper: It's a tortoise.

Borat: Is it a cat in a hat?

Zookeeper: No... it's a tortoise in a shell.
