Will the American Public ever get off the couch and be citizens again??
All this talk about why doesnt the Congress do this, Why doesnt the president do that. Being the citizen of a democracy is ALOT of work.
WHEN are YOU going to get to work so the Govt can do their job correctly?? Its up to you.
only 9% of americans of voting age voted in the election a month ago. 9% of the population is running your country!
Kat, thats not true at all. You have MASSIVE power even outside of election boothes. You would be surprised at the power you have.
The biggest power you have is to learn who is in charge of what in your govt (and who is not in charge). Most people would be surprised at just how powerless our president really is.

THANK YOU! I wish people would stop complaining and take SOME action. Write to a Congressman or Senator. Get involved in your communities. Join a grassroots organization about some issue you believe in. DO SOMETHING - Don't just sit there! And so many people didn't even vote...it is very discouraging.

I agree with you. Americans do need to get off the couch. The president really doesn't have all the power, and he doesn't make all the decisions. Congress has the most power. And I just want to say, this president did not get us into this war, the congress got us into this war. If they had each done their own research, they could have made a better decision. But being the lazy manipulators that most of them are, they went along with what was presented to them. When they realized they made a mistake, they all started backtracking and pointing the finger at the president. yust like a bunch of school kids would do.
Get out and vote America! Get the numbskulls out of DC and get some real working Americans in the power seats.

I think part of the problem is that people dont feel as though they have any say or power anymore. Not in their own lives or family lives and of course not politically due to the fact that the special interest coporate giants always win and so do their political interests and agendas, along with their croonies that they control with money and life styles.
Mean while the average joe is right here fighting to stay alive listening to smear smutt campains as the best canadates try to get one up on their opponets with the poopy in the face campains. Everything gets distorsted, real issues are fogged over and forgoten as they go on with dirty polotics which in turn drives the interest of the people away in disgust! It is so ironic all they do is make public the other opponents lies, deciet, poor work record etc. yet one of them is elected inspite of such record!
They (the politicians) are disgusting in the most part, like they used to say years ago never trust a politician (it truly was a negative to be a politician) they are largest bunch of self serving self centered people on this earth.... and claiming to be servants of the people! HA!
I wish I could be a politician serving the public and reap all the oppulent and over indulged benefits and lifestlye they do ........................HA public servants..............No more like served anything, anyway they want at any expense by the true servants the PEOPLE! Or if not well they will just vote it in with their next pay raise!
No wonder people dont vote there typically isnt anyone worth voting for so what are the options vote for the best looser?

I feel the same way. You know, I couldn't wait to turn eighteen so I could register to vote. The american public is so unaware of what they can do to changer their society. I think these midterm elections were a step in the right for the american public, but I think most people think their job is done after they vote. There are 250 million people in the US that these elected officials have to answer to. I mean how many people know their congressmen/women and where they can email/write/call them to express their concerns. Because the Lobbyists, fatcats, industries, and christian right all know exactly who to tell their agendas to, maybe the average joe, the welfare cases, and the working public (including you college kids watching your tuitions rise though you have no healthcare) need to start making thier voice heard too.

That's not a fair question... we as people do only have so much power when it comes to Congress and the President.. our biggest power is we elect our officials, those people hoping that while in office they WILL do what is in the best interest of the American People.. We don't have a real role in the making of Federal Laws.. only state level... our power as a Republic is electing in our officials.... I think we did that with this last election.. we told them... you can do whatever you want while in Congress but come election time, if the majority of Americans don't agree.. you will be voted out- I think we sent a powerful message to this Congress.. and hopefully they will do what is in the best interest of us and listen to our concerns- more so then the current Congress did

Great question. People like to whine about the government and refuse to change their own lives to help out.
BIG EXAMPLE - GLOBAL WARMING
Why does our government have to get involved? Stop wasting energy, stop driving gas guzzlers, try recycling rather than tossing paper/glass/aluminum out, stop supporting companies dumping ozone-killing toxins in the air. It's not that hard. If citizens started taking responsibility for their own actions, we could change the country for the better, and make more of an immediate impact than a bunch of politicians.

I am doing it already and I had learn a lot from the Bush Regime.
I played a Christian once because I didn't like a Mayor Candidate. He was ahead in the poll too. He lost because I told all the churches in town here that he supported the establishment of an adult store!
Yes, I did felt like a Pig (Porky Pig Rove) for a while.

Everyone should take one Yahoo Question or Answer about politics and send it to the legislators. They absolutely don't hear enough from people.
The Neocons set it up this way deliberately and if voters are smart, they will look over the last few years and figure out why.
Write something TODAY!

I totally agree with you! I vote, I am in local government, I get involved. Way too many people have way to much to say and way to little else to do with anything! I love the people who come up to me a whine and complain about things but when i ask them to serve on a board or show up for a meeting, they "Just have way too much stuff going on". I agree with you, people should put up or shut up!

well, mr. godoompah, whether we get off the couch depends on 1 thing: can we actually MOVE? Some of us are STUCK - we could not move if our lives depended on it. Some of us have tried to MOVE - have tried to be citizens- and almost ended up DEAD!!!!!! Personally, I think the citizen deal could go either way (50-50). Usually, if you have rich relatives, and/or are willing to do WHATEVER they want, then, YES, some portions of the American public can become citizens again. Otherwise, get a good Boppy, a bag of chips, and become good friends with the remote control!!!!!!!
