Good xmas crafts/activities for kids?
I am looking for some ideas for a 7 and 9 year old to do for Christmas crafts or activites for them. Besides for them decorate cookies or stringing popcorn, I really can't think of anything else for them to do. They love to do crafty stuff and all but like I said, I'm really drawing a blank on this one. Any ideas would be really appreciated! Oh and Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays to all!

MY 10 year old daughter wants a drum set(real one, she had the kiddie version). That should run about $500.00 and would be all she gets. I always ask for lists and I never buy anything not on them. I typically spend 3 to 5 hundred on my daughter. STuffs expensive. Oh, she wants an ice cream maker and like always, a horse. I don't do any shopping until a few weeks before Xmas and I do it online if I can

I dont know if theyre too old for this or not, but when i was little I made this "reindeer food". All it was was a ziplock bag with oatmeal and glitter/confetti in it. On Christmas Eve Id throw it on the lawn so the reindeer could eat teh oatmeal and see my house while santa was inside. Obviously birds just end up eating the oatmeal in the morning.

I remember when I was younger always making reindeer out of candycanes with eyes and pipe cleaners, then use them as ornaments.
You can also let them make their own christmas cards. Buy a couple holiday stamps, ink and cardstock give them glitter and markers.
You can get some clear ball ornaments and let them paint them.

If you go to any craft store there are wooden ordaments, you could get some and have them paint them themselfs for the tree. Happy Holidays! : )

There are ALL kinds of ornaments that you can make. like bow tie noodle angels....hand reindeer faces...candy cane reindeer...decorating gingerbread/graham cracker houses (not making them though) plays are always fun. Making stockings is fun or decorating them with puffy paint.....decorating wreathes made of paper or whatever material you like (foam board door hangers?) Whatever you decide they will have fun. Good luck!

take glass or plastic clear balls, take off the hook with which to hang it on the tree, take some paint, squirt some in, and then turn it this way and that so the paint coats in inside.
also, felt stockings with glitter glue or paint are fun for them to decorate with their own style.

-gingerbread houses are ALWAYS fun. Buy lots of extra candy though lol. you can buy pre baked houses and assemble them the day before then let the kids decorate them.
-no sew stockings made out of felt. Cut out sock shapes and glue together. trim the top with cotton balls and decorate with ribbon, glitter, sequins even markers. let the kids fill them with small treats to give to thier friends, of fill them with toys and donate them to a charity. small ones look great on the tree and larger ones can be hung on the wall or near a fireplace.
-paper snowflakes made out of sparkly or slear papers make great decorations and kids love making them. put tem on the ree, in front of a window, on presents or in christmas cards
-beaded icicles. Use clear white and blue plastic beads (glitter beads work too!) and coated jewelery wire to make twisty icicles for the tree. you can get soft coated wire at a craft store. don't get stiff wire, and make sure it is thick. cut the wire about 6-8" in length for the kids and twist the end up so the beads dont go sliding off the end. have them string 4-6 inches of beads on to the wire then wrap the remaing end of the wire around a pencil or chopstick too keep the beads in place and add a little whimsy to the iceicles. Tie some ribbon or thread to the top and hang from the tree or infront of windows. you can tie them ti presents too
-candy oranments. glue hard candy pieces to a felt or cardboard backing using tacky glue in hoildat hapes like snowmen, or presents, of even flowers. you can spray them with sealer after they are dry and keep the, forever or let them be.if you store them in an air tight container i na cool (not cold) dry place they will last indefiantly even if you don't spray them.
-Pomanders made of oranges and cloves. use a shaprened pencil to poke small holes in the orange skin and insert whole cloves. you can make a pattern, or cover the whole orange. if you over the orange and let it dry it will last forever! if you don't cover it or it doesn't dry properly it will start the mold or rot in a few weeks. you can bake them in a 150-200F oven for about an hour to speed up the process. You can use any kind of citrus fruit, or apples. Apples won't keep though, youll have to throw them away at the end of the season.
-Salt dough oranaments are awlays gun. mix 1 cup salt, with 2 cup flour and 1 cup water. kneed together for 5-10 minutes. if you add 1 T of veg. oil the dough will be easier to work with but its not nessary. let the kids make whet ever the want! snowmen, santa, crosses, angels, mini gingerbread houses, don't matter! use a little bit or water as glue to stick two pieces together. you can dye the dough with some food colouring or paint it when it dries. it takes 3-4 days to dry or 6 hours in a 150F oven. you can spray it with acrylic sealer if you want to make it shiny but it will keep just fine without it. if you want to hang things from the tree use a drinking straw to poke a hole at least 1/4" from the end of stick small pieces of wire i nthe to the back.
-spool knitted garlands for the tree, fire place of stairs.
This one takes a long time but if the kids like doing it, you've jsut found youself hours of quiet time! get a spool knitter (als known as a knitting nancy) and some christmas coloured yarn. it doesn't need to be expensive. the cheap stuff work very well for this and let them make a long strand. the same can be said for the spool knitter. Walmart sells them for about 2 bucks a piece, or you can look on the internet for instructions for making your own. tie on a new colour on to the yarn and then can make stripes. Not every kids like doing this, but its worth a shot if you need a few minutes to wrap some presents or do a few chores.
-make new christmas cards out of the front of last years cards. remove the park with the message, and save them (or toss them it doens't matter) and let the kids cut and paste the pictures on to new cards to give to thier friends and teachers. Its a good lesson of reusing and recycling too. and its cheap! all you need is glue, scissors, construction paper or cardstock (to make the base for the new card) and some markers for writting messages.
