As a hardware enggineer, i have faced this problem in lot of places.

Mostly the problem is due to

" the processor fan will not be running properly. There may be some cables sticking to the processor fan and block it from running. Due to the heat produced from the processor, the system shutsdown and then restarts"

remove the PC cover, check for the cables running over the processor fan. This will solve the entire problem.

    hardware related problem

check the fan behind smps power supply.

Turn off power.open your computer's cover. Turn power on while the computer is opened. See if the fan above the processor is working. If any one of the fans is not working then you should replace it immediately.

If your computer beeps during boot, then note down the beep pattern to identify the hardware problem.

    software related problem.

    1) Disable system restore

    2) Update your antivirus program

    3) Boot in safe mode and run virus scan

    4) Note down the name of the detected malware.

And Restart your computer to boot normally

    5) Do a google search for its manual removal instructions

    6) Copy the instructions on the hard disk, and follow the steps given in it.

I've had this problem for a year now and it's frustrating... it's either a boot sector write virus, a compatabily problem with hardware, or your system bios... get a really good registry cleaner and try that, if that doesn't work, go to start/run/ "type in" sfc /scannow this scans all widows system files and restores them if there are any problems... I hope one of these helps, if not change your hardware. Peace bud! -john

p.s. there is a space in between sfc and scannow

    sfc_scannow <---- just spacebar

I've had that same issue and I am not sure if it could be the hard drive, or the power supply. People tell me so many different things I'm confused. I tried to reboot in safe mode but it would not allow me, it kept on rebooting. I tried to repair it with the windows cd and it would restart. I tried to reformat and it will let it go through certain steps but as soon as I reach the installing window steps, the computer reboots. I'm so confused lol.

it seems like youve catch something bad on your pc... a worm!

W32/IRCbot.worm is a medium risk worm for home users. you can be infected simply by going online. once infected, your computer may restart continuosly. you can click this link for more info. http://us.mcafee.com/virusInfo/default.asp?id=desc...

but there could be another possible reason... check the wattage of your power supply at the back of your pc.. maybe it cannot handle all your components inside your computer (if! if it is a desktop computer, this answer is nothing to do if you use laptops). Try to upgrade your power supply.

the processor is overheating leading to the shutdown to protect the machine; restarts when the processor cools down enough. the laptop needs to be cracked open to replace the fan.

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
