A riddle. How to ferry one item to the other side of the river, without risking the life of the other?

A riddle!

I have a LION, a GOAT and a load of GREEN GRASS.

I am at the bank of a wide and deep river, with a Lion, a Goat and load of green grass. The three lots are hungry, but cannot take the food in my presence. In fact, its only my presence which prevents the lion from eating the goat, and the goat from eating the green grass. Left alone together, the goat will be eaten by the lion, and, if the goat is left with the grass, the grass will be eaten by the goat. Hence, I have a problem. A big problem!

Now, I want to take all three to the other side of the river. Unfortunately, the only available boat at the river is one which is too small to accommodate more than one item/animal plus myself, at one time.

How can I mange to take all three to the other side of the river, safely, without risking leaving the lion with the goat alone behind, or the goat with the grass alone, behind? Advise, please!

1st: Take the goat over to the other side.

2nd: Take the lion over, drop him off and take the goat back with you to get the grass.

3rd: Drop off the goat, pick up the grass, then carry the grass over to the other side.

4th. Go back to get the goat, then bring the goat back over.

    and so ends the saga...

    Simple.

Take the goat to the other side first. Then, come and take the grass to the other side and bring the goat back and take the lion this time leaving the goat behind. Then come back and take the lion.

Goat accross first leaving lion and grass.

    Come back empty.

Take lion accross next. When you get to the other side, comeback with the goat. So while you are intrasit back the lion has crossed, you have the goat, coming back to the grass.

Now drop off goat on orignal bank and take accross the grass to the lion and drop it off.

Come back empty, fetch the goat and you are done.

*Leave the goat and take the lion to the other side

*Now take the goat again to other side back from this side

first, take the goat. then go back. then take the lion. then take the goat back with you. then take the grass. then go back once more. then take the goat again. guess thats a solution, there is another, as far as i can remember.
