The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse?
The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse... If God really, really was all good and forgiving... why send four aging cowboys to end the world, why not just appear (it would have to be on the White House Lawn.... of course - like in all old Sci-Fi movies) and with one wave of his hand like in creation, change us all to be believers and 'good' people?
Symbolic or allegory... that is not the question... the question is... why send plague, famine etc... when as Christians would believe, that God is all good and has the ability to create this world, doesn't he just change it with a whoosh of his hand... and why inflict so much pain if he loves us all so much?

The book of Revelation, also known as the Apocalypse is an example of a type of writing common in the first century. It was intended to reassure the early church that their persecution would end and that the enemy (Satan, this world and the Emperor Nero) would come to an end.
Nero went (he wasn't actually thrown into a lake of burning suphur, but it's a nice thought). The horsemen are no longer relevant. Eventually it got worse - the Emperor Constantine nationalised the church.

These are God judgment onto "Christendom". As you know, God wrath will be onto the believers as well as unbelievers because they are also part of the evil community-the Byzantine Empire (also known as the beast) that judgment had been made. And God will cause the few to suffer together with the rest that were given to the beast but for the few the reward will be paradise against the rest the lake of fire. The rider on the white horse is a Muslim, an approved God people, the same rider as described in Rev.19, where it described to the very detailed about prophet Muhammad. But,the red was the Persian who had been tormenting the kingdom constantly about the same era causing havoc and famine(loss of farmed land and rationing of food). If you like, the Persian are described in Rev 9. When the Persian-an unapproved God people, took Egypt from them, the food supply to the Byzantine was further cut-off and there was widespread famine throughout the kingdom which is the third rider in black. It was also during these period that there was great plague devastation all kingdom including Byzantine, Persian and Muslim Syria killing most of the world population, which is the last rider.

The reason that everything is bad is because Satan, Adam and Eve took humanity away from Gods guidence, so that we could choose what is good and bad for ourselves (Genesis 3:1-6). What makes us different from the animals is that we have freewill and are in the image of God. So if God just got rid of them straight away, then later on people (and angels) would wonder if they were right, and the issue wouldn't have been solved. Instead, God has stayed in control and it has been proved for all time that we need Him as sovereign leader over us all. It seems harsh at the moment, but bearing in mind that we will live for eternity in paradise, and all the badness will be forgotton about (Revelation 21:4), it's worth it
If though we learn Gods requirements in the Bible, and follow them, then God will look after us (Proverbs 2:7-8). Sometime's it does seem like there isn't any justice in the world, but there is. It's just that we aren't as able to see the bigger picture of a persons life, not even our own sometimes (Ecclesiastes 8:11-13).
Also its worth remembering 2 Peter 3:9
Jehovah is not slow respecting his promise, as some people consider slowness, but he is patient with you because he does not desire any to be destroyed but desires all to attain to repentance.

He gave us free choice, but he's like a parent, so he disiplinces his children. And besides, God is cool so he has to end the world all neato and stuff.

God is more like your father who gives you a slap when you have done something really bad not because he does not love you but because that's one way of teaching you good from wrong.

Didn't you see Bruce Almightly? He cries out to his girlfriend who has left him, "LOVE ME!!" But she won't.
The movie wasn't good, but this scene was Bible. God isn't going to force anyone to love Him. You have to seek Him! He's calling you.
And the end will come. For those who don't know God, He will pour out his wrath.
