I agree... best way is to watch games with a football fan that knows the game and can explain things/ answer questions.
You can also go to books about football, they cover individual sports as well in the "____ for Dummies" series.

actually a great way to learn about football is to play Madden Football. seriously they have all the players and all the real issues you face in actual football. another way is to simply have someone explain the game to you whil watching it with them. ask why did he do that? why does the team us that formation? blah blah blah. ask questions. watch football, and last but not least play it either through video game or actually play it in person. you will catch on

don't be offended by my answer but go buy football for dummies. it gives you alot of the basic ground rules for football and gives you some "lingo" so if you start talkign to a buddy about it he doesn't look at you funny when you ask who the guy in the back field is that has his hands between the guys legs that is squatted down....LOL

Submersion......Watch with somebody who really knows the game........I learned all I know from watching football with my dad and other family members as a kid......The more you watch the more you pick up.

watch it, it takes time but is the best. then when a question arises look it up on line. if you don't mind being that person, watch it with someone who nows the game and then ask them.
