I lie from time to time, does that makes me a dishonest person?

My definition of a dishonest person is one who consistently concelling the truth.

In my perspective, everyone lies from one's birth until one's death. The only difference between a dishonest person and an honest person is the frequency of lying. An honest person will consistently try to be better and eliminate expressing faulty statement as much as possible. And only lie at the right situation where the lie does not create harms.

Lie is only bad when it creates harms; hurts others. Lie can also be good when it generates happiness. For example, when you compliment people on things knowing in yourself that it's not true.

For those who think lies are bad, then truths are bad as well. Because truth and lie can hurt as well as can provide wellness, don't you agree?

I agree with you there are sometimes you must lie, if a friend just bought a house and asks you how do you like it, and you don't are you going to say this is the crappiest house I have ever seen, or are you going to say its very nice congratulations. We say lies all the time but is it a lie if you are sparing someones feelings. Now if you go around lying to everyone like trying to sell your car that has no engine in it, and telling people that its showroom condition then that's a dishonest person. and that does cause harm .

    Hmm...

What is an honest person? Is an honest person someone who only lies SOME of the time? If so then to what extent? Once a week? Once a month? Once a year?

What is a dishonest person? Is it someone who lies consistently? If so, then define consistent. Once a day? Once a week? Three times a week?

What is honesty? If someone lies to make someone else feels better, are they being honest?

    Do lies heal?

    Do truths hurt?

    Or does it really matter?

In the end, how is a person helped (for the better) if they don't know the truth? Even if they can be helped, will it last for a long time?

What makes something bad? The fact that it hurts someone, or that fact that it doesn't help someone?

You know, there is such a thing as self-denial. It is when one lies to oneself. It is a self-defense mechanism that the brain uses to bury painful thoughts. Basically, it is a lie to make yourself feel better. Though it does have temporary benefits (such as controlling your sanity), it is vital that the thought in denial be released, dealt with, when the subject is mentally ready for it.

Is it better to go up to your friends pretending that the embarrassing act you did yesterday never happened or is it better to face the fact that it was done and be past with it?

Self-denial is a type of lie, and just like all lies, it is dangerous (yet incredibly easy) to use. But for the answer to if you are a dishonest person, you are going to have to decide on what an honest person is.

Don't kid yourself--you're dishonest at times. This doesn't make you a bad person, you're right that sometimes being dishonest is better than being honest. You're also right that most people do this--most people are sometimes dishonest. But please don't mince the definitions of words, you can't lie AND be a totally honest person, but you can certainly lie and be a good person.

There is a theoretical example--say you're sitting in your living room, and you know your roomate is in the bedroom. A man walks in the door and says "I'm going to murder your roomate, where is he?" Do you tell him the truth, or do you lie?

We all lie from time to time because we are born into sin from birth. The difference comes when you are trying to do right versus simply lying you way out of something. Just because you can do wrong does not mean you should do wrong.

Just because you can lie your way out of something does not mean you should.

Everyone is dishonest, everyone lies, and anyone that says they don't lie, is a liar...

agreed. a little white lie that couldn't hurt anybody is okay once in a while. but don't get carried away, cause it will cause a serious damage to your image. you lie too much, force of habit then without realizing it, it becomes your system. lie to everything and everybody. tsk, tsk, tsk, tsk! try to lessen those lies, k?

Yes, I agree. Little "white" lies like telling someone they look good when they don't, etc is trying to spare their feelings.

I totally agree. Life isn't black and white. Every situation is different. sometimes lying is the best thing to do.
