Tragic accident now what?

My son was in a tragic motorcycle accident 12/8/06. He suffered a crushed left leg, knee cap, foot, and fractured vertabrae as well as a broken rib in his back. As his MOM i live in illinois he lives in California----I've tried calling him to see how he's doing only to be told he's busy visiting with friends and he hangs up on me.

How can I get through to him that I'm concerned? Why is he being this way?

Update:

I do stay in touch with my son--He left Illinois in 2002. He's bi-polar and has serious mood swings and outburst rages. During these times he ceases all communications with me. I've dealt with his illness for years and he refuses medical interventions. Maybe now that he's laid up in the hospital they will see that he has not only broken bones to heal but he also has mental health issues too.

I will continue to send cards and letters to him and the occasional telephone call will still continue!

MOM, I KNOW YOU LOVE YOUR CHILD....THAT'S UNDERSTANDABLE..

BUT, ALL YOU DO IS DO YOUR PART AS A MOTHER.. THEN WHEN HE REFUSE YOUR HELP.. LET HIM BE.. THERE WILL COME A TIME THAT HE WILL REALLY NEED YOU...DON'T ALWAYS BLAME HIS BEHAVIOUR ON HIS ILLNESS.. JUST MAYBE HE DOES THESE THINGS TO GET TENSION.IT'S A NUMBER OF THINGS THAT HE COULD BE DOING DRUGS?ETC...... HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT ABOUT THAT?

BUT THE REMEDY FOR THAT PROBLEM IS: "PRAYER"

I PROMISE YOU IT MOVE ALL TYPES OF OBSTACLE IN YOUR LIFE TRY IT..

    Oh dear!

Seems like his leg, knee and vertebrae are not the only things that are crushed! His heart seems to be broken too. The question is by whom or what?

For how long have you lived apart? Do you only communicate when there is a tragedy? You need to try to see him in person. Remember, "As much as depends on you, try to leave at peace with all men."

Pray... for him... for yourself... for complete healing. And take it one day at a time. You may need to give him space after you've let him known how he's breaking your heart. In time, he'll come round.

    All the best, dear!

At least he is still there to hang up on you. I'm sure he is fine. I have a 23 yr old in So Cal, I worry all the time.

My brother in law was killed right after 9-11 on his Ninja Motorcycle, it was TRAGIC, I am still not over it. Just be glad he is still here! Let him be young and be wit his friends for now, don't bug him, just let him know you love him.

I guess he just sees something that your not telling us that happen in the past. The one way to get to him is to go there, How do you know all this happen to him, he must be in pretty bad way almost totally incapacitated and in bed. With the fractures to his back he must be laid up? right? I know he isn't running around. Maybe you'd better make sure he's really hurt.

Well did you go see him when he was hurt? If not maybe he feels neglected by you and maye he feels you don't care enough about him to come see him. I would tell him when he is up to it call you ! That way you have his time and can express what you wnat to to him. Good luck !

Maybe you should search in the past and think about if there was anything that he got upset with you about. If so fix it. If not, buy a plane ticket and go see him.
