Is an exclusive diabetic pharmacy a viable option?

I have noticed that the problem of diabetics is on the rise and many who are suffering do not have a one-stop chemist, where they can get all what they need. I want to start a small business dealing specifically with the needs of the diabetics, preferably in a developing country. Is it a viable option? Is there anybody around with some experience in this area?

It is not a viable option though you open the pharmacy near a Diabetologist Clinic . Since the people who are diabetics will have other problems also they may require other medicines . So as far as the profit is concerned you cannot expect more.. Moreover pharmacy means you should get medicines for all ailments.

You have hit upon a fast growing segment in Pharmacy: Disease state management. The pharmacists I know who are in this area normally split their time between regular dispensing duties and disease state management. The major issue is that many insurances don't cover prophylaxis treatments as well as acute treatments.

What we do for our supplies is order them on-line through

    www.diabetesdepot.ca

    www.fifty50.com

these pharmacies, carry diabetes supplies- and extensive selection, but also carry regular pharmacy stuff in the store itself.

Good idea if you ask me. Saves the running from place to place all every month

'chemist'? I assume you are a Brit.

We have them here in the States. A former coworker of mine owns and operates two of them.

While your desire to do it in a third world country is admirable, I highly doubt it is economically feasible.
