I think the primarily cause is a decline in literacy, meaning that most people (and especially teenagers) read little, if anything, beyond instant messages from their friends (and those are usually less than grammatical). What every child learns in school is just a starting point, and if your primary mode of absorbing language is by sound, you're going to be pretty limited. I think this last point is illustrated by a high volume of the questions and answers you'll see posted here, which feature bizarre (if any) punctuation, tortured syntax, and weird phonetic spelling.

Personally, I think it's because of society. Listen to the radio. Listen to the music. Unfortunately, they are are either slurring the words, or the grammar is so bad that you can't understand what is being said. I think that is the major difference between poetry and music. Poetry has to make grammatical sense while music as ' artistic license '.
Also, it's part of the whole rebellion phase that we all go through. Even if they are corrected, most won't take the corrections because an authority figure informed them. The sad commentary is that when these people are tested in grammar in school and they fail the test, they still pass the class due to this administrations policy of ' No Child Left Behind '.
In my humble opinion.
