My 10 year old dog is sick. Please tell me what you think.?

This has been slowly happening for the past 3 or 4 days. She is vomiting brownish liquid - sometimes a little foamy. When she got up to walk this morning she almost fell down like she has lost her coordination or has no strenght. I finally gave her some Pepto Bismol and she has a temp of 100.6 which is pretty low. Does it sound like she has been poisioned or just a some other kind of sickness going on? She is up to date on shots and heartworm negative- and on heartworm preventative. I used to work for a vet about 10 years ago so I usually know what to do when she gets a little sick but this time she has me worried and I need some help. So far- the pepto bismol has helped her and she has drank some water - but only a little bit. If she continues to get worse I will take her to the vet TODAY--SO please no hateful answers accussing me of being cheap and uncaring ---which is the response some people get when they ask for help with dog issues.

Update:

Just F.Y.I - She has not been extremely sick these past few days- This morning at 3:00am was when she stumbled around a bit but my husband said she was just trying to make it around the moving boxes- so - anyway, she has only vomited about one - two times in each day and then she will seem to feel a bit better. I am not an expert and just thought I would ask some people thoughts on what it could be!! I have an appt with the vet and I ALREADY KNOW SHE REALLY NEEDS TO GO!! I just wish you people who answer questions being so rude would just think for a minute that you don't really know the person you are answering the question for so don't make assumptions!! Thanks for all the caring ones out there. I appreciate it. For all of you cruel individuals - I specifically said I worked for a vet a long time ago. That is why I am able to handle some things on my own - but I know when it gets too serious for me and then we go to the vet!! Don't answer if you can't be grown up and helpful.

I would highly recommend switching leashes. Dogs that pull will only get worse on a retractable leash. Not only do they always have a slight tension (meaning that to move ahead they MUST pull to a degree, but also the dog will never learn an esact length og leash. I would suggest that it's usually best to get a 6ft lead with a walking loop (meaning that there is an extra loop for you to switch to that is at the 2ft point for more control. Also, I would focus on training sit stays to have the dog focused on you while a distraction goes by (carry tiny bits of bacon if you have to). Try switching sides if the road, or moving onto a lawn while others pass by for now. Work with the leash in the back yard and switch directions every time your dog stretches past you with an encouraging "this way, let's go!" Please remember that throat restriction gets a different reaction from our canine companions. Their necks and throats are much stronger than ours and the tend to pull harder thinking they will move past the restriction (we would back off, of course). That's why they use chokers to train sled dogs. Hope this helps a little. BTW Anyone other than a child looking at the situation should be able to tell that you are trying to rein in an excited dog. Once he/she is more adjusted to some good manners your life will get easier.

Sounds like your dog is sick. Take her to the vet. Same thing happened to my dog last month. Brown vomit, not getting up, not eating, drinking little water. Took him to the vet- had some tests done, he got some antibiotics and pain killers.

Your pup's probably just sick and feels crappy- take her to the vet though, just to be safe, and let them do the blood tests.

Had the carpet cleaners over yesterday, the puke stains did not come out from my beige berber carpet!

The cleaner said club soda or any kind of carbonated water on the vomit will most likely get the stain out. Pick up the chunks (as much as you can) shake up the soda a bit, pour on stain, with a towel, work from the outside in.

I know carpet cleaning is not about your pup, but I just wanted to let you know...

I hope your girl gets better!

Did you feed her regular dog food or table scraps? Think back those days when she started to get sick. What did she have to eat? Did she eat something from outside? Because some dogs will eat something that was on the ground when they go out to potty. Does she go out by herself? It sounds like she might be getting rabbi's. Might!! A dog I use to have did the same thing and come to find out she was bitten by a rat and got rabbi's. I had to put her down. Hope you don't have to do that. But just in case, take her to the vet for blood work. Good Luck! And I hope she gets to feeling better.

If you use to work for a vet which I really doubt then you should know to take her and have her looked at right away. This is not a hateful answer just a word of advice. Get her to the vet now.

Sorry, I am not being 'hateful' but if you were a vet nurse, how could you possibly leave this dog as it is for 3 or 4 days. Thats too long. Of course she is sick, sounds like some form of poisoning to me. Please take her to the vet . NOW.

Vets are tooo expensive, I agree.

First, it could be poisoning or she could have a blockage. My dog had eaten a corn cob..lost weight, would not eat, could not drink, threw up the second he tried to eat...because the food could not get past the blockage. It cost me about 2,000 to fix him up after all was said and done. So my advice is to brace yourself, be sure you know your financial limits and options, folks who can help, the most affordable vet etc.
