Do you think the Maury show promotes negative stereotypes?

Nearly everytime I turn it on there seems to be some African American people trying to determine paternity. Everyone knows this is not indicative of the population. But, is it racist in its depiction of black families having to test 12 or men to find the real father? And why is America and its tv stations allowing this if it is?

Absolutely. This show and others like it not only paint negative pictures about race, class, and gender, but they also attach Americans in general with a terrible stereotype.

When I was stationed in Europe with the U.S. Army, these shows where available to the majority of the population (most use satellite TV). The shows, like in the U.S., were infectious and they loved them. But, it gave the impression that this is how Americans are! I was appalled by this assumption and comparision.

You might find it interesting that many Europeans consider American food to be "McDonald's" or other fast food. There is no cuisine association with many American cultural champions such as Creole cooking, southern cooking, barbecuing, etc.

In essence, to the average European, Americans are uneducated heathens that sleep around and eat fattening foods all day. Maybe they are right. What an embarrassment.

a lot of things on tv promote stereotypes, not just Maury although Maury does it's share. take for example Will and Grace, that show is full of stereotypes yet won Emmys. it's just more obvious and less humorous (sometimes) on Maury. tv allows stereotypes. the end.

Nick, you would be able to desire to look at that coach and others in its ilk and use it for what it incredibly is. I watch those exhibits and comprehend how blessed my very own existence is. If a million/2 of whats on those exhibits is remotely actual, i believe as though I even have my act thoroughly mutually, even nevertheless i believe as though i do no longer. do no longer watch it for stereotypes. I see the trailer park human beings on there making fools of themselves. i do no longer look at it as some previous college white stereotype. For us to defeat stereotypes, we would desire to look at them, snicker and flow on. Thats what you ought to take from exhibits like Maury. At one time, that guy replaced into incredibly a severe information guy. Breaking memories and replaced into incredibly a journalist. He married Connie Chung. and then he created this abomination of a coach.

It is not like Maury goes out trolling for these people. They come to him. If a certain group of people do not wish to be classified as such then they shouldn't put themselves out there.

I have seen people of all different races on there doing paternity tests. I think it is sad that it is always the same topic.

It's just another subliminal way to perpetuate racism and stereotypes. It's just like with the media; statistically more whites than blacks commit crimes but black crimes are the only ones they report on the news. It's just another form of racism.
