How do I keep bum fur clean from poo?

I have only had one long haired cat and triming the fur around the cats bum was the best soloution.

I also feed my cats Royal Canine Indoor. It is a food made for indoor cats and it makes their poo harder, so you want have to worry about runny poo sticking in their butts.

I think you will need to trim the area, and keep it trimmed. This is a common procedure in the grooming industry, and you and your animal will be much happier without the poo-berries stuck to her rump. Once you clip the area, it should stay clean, and it will be much easier to keep trimmed. Don't forget to also trim the underneath side of the tail, right near the offensive area! I suggest electric clippers for the job, as they are safer and will complete the task more quickly. You might want to ask a friend for assistance, as the cat is most likely not going to appreciate your efforts of good hygeine on her behalf.

I also have my first longhair right now, and yes, you will have to clean her sometimes. I don't think they really get that they have to do it themselves! Or maybe the thought of all that fur to clean discourages them. Hard to say. Mine was a stray before we adopted him and his coat was pretty dirty all over, so when I took him to the vets for his shots, etc. they groomed him for me, and now when we go, they always check his coat and his rear end. I also do try to brush him as often as I can. He doesn't always like it, but if I don't he will get terrible mats in his coat from burrs outdoors, et. Good luck!

you can try and train them to be super clean by making their bum area wet, they will clean it if its wet, but if its chunks of poop there is nothing you can do but cut the hair back there

Must be a small kitten , when they get on reg. kitten food it will get better , they will clean themselfs .
