Do African's from Africa prefer to be called African African's?

It seems strange for African Americans to tie themselves to a country they have never even been to in many cases.

I don't get the whole African American thing. Whites are from other countries but no one refers to us as European Americans. I think that you are an african american in one of 2 cases - you were born in africa and move to america to live, or one of your parents is african and the other is american. Anyway, there are plenty of whites in africa so african american doesn't really refer to the black people after all.

It seems like Africans would just be called Africans and Americans would be called Americans regardless of color.

That is their ancestors, so why is it seems to be strange to you that they wish to be called African Americans because of their heritage. By doing so, they are showing pride, and honor of their motherland. Though some don't agree, but I would say that most do.
