Santa: Why?
Ok, I'll admit it: I didn't get the whole 'Santa' thing growing up, and maybe it's because of that that I don't appreciate the 'value' of teaching children that a fictional character is real and will give you everything you want for Christmas. It is beyond my comprehension, when I have never heard a pleasant story about finding out the truth (in fact, they're usually quite traumatic) that a parent would want to inflict the same kind of trauma on their kids. It is beyond what I consider a normal range of reason that a parent or parents, who aren't wealthy and usually struggle throughout the rest of the year just to make ends meet, would put THAT MUCH MORE pressure on themselves during the holidays. It is all just beyond me that we would teach kids to be such good consumers at such a young age. I, myself (and yes, my GF and I argue over this every Christmas) do not plan on doing this to my kid(s)
So, I ask you, the people of the Yahoo! world, Why?
Oh, they'll know all about the Magi and the baby in the manger! What will they say about Santa? Well, I was taught to 'live and let live' and I will teach my kids the same.

The holiday is about Jesus! It is his birthday,I celebrate him.As for Santa represents the spirit of Christmas the spirit of giving, Santa brings very little to my house but instills good morals. Giving, Goodness, and there is nothing like the joy of a child's excitement and when a child comes of age you explain what Christmas is about (Luke 1 and 2) then explain where Santa came from Saint Nicholas a christian over come with the spirit of giving and I wanted to give to you that gift.

Great speech, Darwin. So when one half of your kids' world asks them why dont your parents believe in Santa Claus or the other half asks why werent you taught the meaning of the gifts of the Magi (the 3 Kings who brought gifts to the Babe in the manger) --- What do you recommend they reply?

Because they all BELIEVE and want to continue it in their heart. There is NOTHING like seeing a child's face light up seeing what they got from Santa. Santa is "magical" it is a part of growing up,I did NOT have a tramatic event when learning the truth,I still chose to believe in my HEART which is where he is in everyone who BELIEVES

Santa will bring you SOMETHING,NOT always what you want. Growing up in a family where money was always tight,we learned quickly to accept what we were given and to appreciate it.
