What is considered a comfortable salary if you wanna stay in NYC?own a car...rent a apartment in town?

Each month It will cost you:

$3500 for rent

$350 to park your car

$400 for CAR INSURANCE (you do NOT need a car here, you will only use it 2x a month)

$800 to eat out Friday and Sat (assuming 4 weekends a month)

Lunch is $10/day. For both of you, 30 days a month, another $600.

You also need $76/each for the subway.

That comes to $69K/year. since you will have to pay federal, state and NYC tax, you are only go to bring home 60% of your salary. So that means $115K salary, you put the max in your 401K, that puts you at $130500.

Now you need a lot of other stuff. So I would say $200K.

I live here (do not have a kid or a car), so I have some idea what I am talking about.

Ditch the car. There is no where to park, and no where to drive to. Just take cabs and the subway like the rest of us.

also, you need $7K or so in relator fees to get you started

Having lived on Boston for 2 years, and having a very similar situation to the stats you mentioned above, I would say 100 - 120K after tax. We both worked full-time while there and earned right in the 80-100K after tax that you predict. We own 2 vehicles, 2 kids, and ate out a lot, so I guess that's why we didn't save much. :-) Perhaps you might be ok on 80-100 after all. :-)

Its understandeable you may be indignant. A marraige is a partnership...for this reason husband and spouse favor to the contact base abotu each and everything because its no longer almost the single individual its 2 lives. in certain circumstances human beings ignore issues and they make blunders. Jsut quiet down, communicate with him frivolously arise with a schedule in case you dont have already got one, or a gadget in case this occurs again the position he needs to help someone. enable him recognize you udnerstand the position he develop into coming from yet next time all you opt for is a heads up.
