Headache Question - Sorry, I know there are tons!?

Question for those who suffer migraines. Friday AM i was clearing my throat and ended up gagging myself - i have a VERY SENSTIVE gag reflex - anyway - as it was AM and i had nothing in my stomach - i was retching pretty hard and just white foamy stuff came up - i'm assuming the nasal drainage i was trying to clear. Anyway - when i stood up (i was hovering over my sink b/c i wasn't near the toilet when this happened) i had the worst headache i'd ever had - my face was bright red - i assume from all the blood rushing to it and my sinuses too - anywho - the headache lasted for about 5 minutes - i blew my nose about 5 times and each time it eased the pressure in my head. After the headache intensity subsided, i had this dull achy head all day - it went way Saturday but Sunday it was back but just in the back of my head on the left side - nothing helped it but lying down in the dark room. Today it's just dull - not sure if it's tension from retching or a migraine - anyone?

Update:

As a side note - my drs office doesn't open til the PM on Monday's and i'm curious to see if anyone else has had anything similar happen. :)

Update 2:

Thanks Mama - yes - i am calling as soon as they open - the last time i had a bad headache that i had chalked up to tension / stress for finals turned out to be a very serious medical problem. :) Thanks again!

Update 3:

thanks Emily. We moved to the memphis area from Philadelphia, PA in the spring and my allergies just don't know what to do down here. I have had a chronic sinus infection since we moved here - just recently finished a round of antiobitics with a shot of rocefin to kick it off - as soon as i stopped the round of antibiotics, it all comes back - such an endless cycle! Sorry to hear of your 2nd and 3rd surgeries - thanks for the info!

I think after talking to the neuro onc here at work that what i did was pull a muslce in my neck - there is some muslce she said that runs up the neck to the top of the head and that is the same track where i've had the intense pain when it starts. When i lean my head (stretching it) to the right, it alleviates the pain - only i would pull a muscle in my neck throwing up! LOL

Thanks for all the answers! They are much appreciated.

I used to suffer from very bad migraines but have been taking inderal to prevent them for about 8 years now, thank God I no longer have them....but your symptoms seem more like tension headache than migraine. Good luck with your doctor appointment, which I am hoping you will make once your doctor's office opens. Hope you feel better soon.

I had nasal surgery, I use to throw up white foamy stuff. Sounds like you need to go a nose, throat and ear specialist that can give you some required surgery. I started getting migraines too.

Never mind one surgery, I had two and I still keep on getting these stupid nasal infections.

As a temporary relief I would put that LAKOTA medicine for artiritis on the sides of my nose. Be very careful not to get it on your eyes. My sinuses would really start draining then.

Maybe you need an antibiotic? Did it come with fever too?

Headache is a pain in the head, scalp or neck. Headaches can be

caused by minor problems like eyestrain, lack of coffee or more

serious reasons like head injury, brain tumors, encephalitis and

meningitis. Taking painkillers continuously can have harmful side

effects, so it is better to modify your lifestyle. More information

It sounds very consistent with a migraine. Why wait till the docs office opens to get relief from headache?? Head to urgent care and let them help you.

Sorry you are in pain. Pharmacists are very knowledgeable and good advisers.

May sound old-wives tale but it does work sometimes. Drink a Gatorade/Powerade type drink for the headache. Stomach ache - drink a 7-Up. Fluids are the key.
