Corian is made of an Acrylic resin and can be worked with standard wood working tools. Carbide tipped tools are best, but I have even used a steel chisel on Corian Brand Solid-surface counter top. You do not need a diamond blade and would get a low quality cut if you tried to use one. If you have a rough edgewhere you cut you can use sandpaper to clean it up. You can also use a router to form the edges and put a profile into them. If you have skill at handling wood working tools there is no reason that you should not cut your own Corian, but I wouldn't use it to learn how to use tools.

You can cut corian with a regular saw. Get a really good blade so that you don't chew up the edge.

We have Corian counter tops and back splashes. The stuff is SO expensive I would not cut it myself. Our contractor told us that should he make one mistake and have to replace a piece, he'd lose any profits from the job.
