If believers "have to prove that God is real," do atheists have to prove that there is no afterlife?

As a Christian, it is not up to me to prove God's existance. It is my job to present the Gospel of Jesus - God will do the rest.

Atheists don't believe in an afterlife any more than we believe in god.

By the way, I have seen the scriptures and "God" didn't do the rest, because there is no god.

Religion is the basis of more wars, death, murders, genocide, prejudice, hatred, deceit and corruption than any other issue on the face of the earth. Each "religion" (I call them cults) believe they are the only "real" truth. Christians, Mormons, Hindu, Muslim, Jews, B'hai, Hare Krishna, etc etc etc ad nauseum. Each believes they are the true one faith. Same can be said of the ancient religions of the Greeks, the Romans the Ottoman Empire, the Celts, etc etc etc ad nauseum. They all killed, tortured, maimed, imprisoned, burned at the stake, and committed untold atrocities on each other all in the name of "god" (whom, if he actually existed, was content to sit back and let it all happen).

So, if you believe it is real, you prove it exists. It is not possible to prove that something does NOT exist. Go ahead and try to prove that there is no alternate universe or that you have an invisible evil twin. Therefore, it is up to the religious "belilevers" to prove that what they believe is true and exists.

No. Once again, it would be the person who believes in the afterlife that would be responsible for proving her claim, and not the non-believer.

Logic requires skepticism. If something cannot be proven true, it is assumed to be false. If something is claimed to be true, it is up to the claimant to prove it.

Please note that there is no way to disprove a negative, anyway; try for yourself, and prove to me that Santa Clause doesn't exist. You can't.

Several posters below me miss this last point. You cannot prove that Zeus does not exist, and that Hades isn't waiting for you in the Underworld. By their logic, Zeus and Hades must both exist.

"We are all atheists about most of the gods that societies have ever believed in. Some of us just go one god further." Richard Dawkins, "The Root of All Evil"

Athiests cannot prove there is no afterlife. That is a fact.

However we who are saved, and have been shown the truth by God and His holy Spirit can easily prove He exists- not just through His written word, but just by looking at creation....many will disagree and fight that, but it is because they do not want to accept it, but rather think of an alternative. The truth is RIGHT THERE. Just as a painting has a painter, and a building has a builder, so creation has a CREATOR, and that is God.

Nope. You don't have to prove something isn't. You have to prove that something is. Otherwise I could say that there are invisible blue trolls running around and you would believe me forever. An atheist is someone who disbelieves that there is a deity. There are atheists who believe that there is is an afterlife..like many Buddhists.

No, for the same reason we don't have to prove there is a god. You claimed there was an afterlife, YOU prove it.

The laws od physics would preclude an afterlife. Our energy would have to be created out of nothing, this is not possible. You can't prove there is a god but you can argue he can exist, because it would violate all of our laws of physics or nature.

It is only man that seeks to create a god.

When you tell me how to prove the FSM isn't real, I will apply the same proof to your god.

The problem is it is always a moving target. First it started out the Earth had to be flat. We figured out that it wasn't.

Then it was the universe was made in 7 days We have that down. And on and on.....

Well, what do you accept as proof? There is plenty in the Bible that isn't accurate. Isn't that what you are asking for?

No, you have to prove there's an afterlife as well. No-one has to prove a negative.

Yeah know what, I do wonder how an atheist expects to prove there is no God while they demand proof that there is a God.

The way I see it, it's better to believe in God and find out he doesn't exist than to not believe in God and find out he does exist.

i do not care. If someone makes a declare, I anticipate some kind of knowledge to diminish back that declare. If I forced atheism on someone, i'd anticipate to furnish them some good reason behind being an atheist. that's elementary experience. If I were on trial for homicide, i does not sit down there and declare that i do not ought to coach that i'm not the assassin. basically because the declare is detrimental does not recommend you may't supply respectable reasoning on your detrimental declare.
