Do you think Yahoo Answers should have age restrictions?

I think that there should be some sort of screening. Too many kids asking adult questions and getting adult answers! What do you think about this?

I know that they can lie, but at the same time, some of these kids actually mention how old they are and people still give inappropriate responses!

I couldn't agree more with you. It's hard to imagine the age of people who are asking some questions. Some questions seem so dumb, or provocative, or insulting, and I know Yahoo Answers isn't monitoring or controlling anything from that aspect, but I can tell you that I would like to know the age of whoever I'm responding to, even you. I imagine I'm older than many, simply because of my age, but then it'd be great to know when I'm talking with people in my own age range. I try to treat everyone I respond to with respect, but sometimes the questions are so incredibly unnecessary or senseless within my value structure that I get irritated at them and have to work hard to restrain my vocabulary. I wouldn't mind having an even greater biographical picture of the individual because, for example, the level of education of individuals affect how they word their questions too, and how it may be best to answer them. Yahoo Answers has a long way to go to make this an ideal format. God Bless you.

There are age restrictions but kids lie. There is no way

to know. People are going to give inappropriate responses

anyway and there isn't much anyone can do about that.

Parents need to monitor their children on the Internet

and stay involved. I have a 15 year old daughter who

set up an account on My Space. I was against it but

she assured me that she would not get into any kind of

bad chatting. I have to trust her but I do check her

    e-mail every so often.

I think you may have a good point. You can tell by some of the questions that they are quite childish - something that a reasonable adult would be able to discern. I just do not know how a screening process would work. Perhaps a new category for the younger group or peer group.

Sure, you have to be at least 18 to participate here. I don't think the Y! Answers team is enforcing this rule, and they allow young people to ask and answer mature questions. I'm sure a tragic situation would be averted if they get off their butts and deal with the immediate enforcement of this age restriction rule. I agree with you on the screening of the potential participants because that should be done right away. Young kids don't need to be on Y! Answers at all, period!!! That's because of the filthy language being posted on this site by a lot of rude and nasty people! And that's the garbage they don't need to be reading and hearing here! I've made my point clear on this issue.

It;s the parents responsibility to monitor their kids. Maybe a lot of kids are asking questions here that their parents aren;t answering for them. Unfortunately there's the risk of getting bad info. Anyway, how would YAhoo be able to verify age? can't be done. If the kids are smart enough to get on here in the first place then they're smart enough to do a little math and figure out the right fake birthdate for age verification

How do you prevent a minor from lying about their age on the internet. It's not like someone is there to check a driver's license. If you tell Yahoo your 18, 19 or 118 how will they know?

the internet should have a age restriction.

you can get more porn on the internet than you can from any magazine or any titty bar. and those you have to be at least 18 to purchase, see or enter into.

yet we allow 6 yr olds to surf the web where porn is nothing more than a click away.

the morals of the world have gone to pot...basic common sense has been lost.

oh ya i,m with you on that. some of the words that are on here would make an adult blush ,much less a child. i totally agree.

No... I don't favour censorship. I think that filters would be useful though so that we could view only questions from people in the range we like. I'm 35, so I'm not interested in questions about high school culture.

I wish there were a way to do that. You can't possibly know what a persons age is.
