Legislators. Get your documents and records together. Write a letter of proposal (what you want changed), why you see a need for the change in law, and who is being harmed by the present law and how. Send it to each and every legislator at your state capitol. It should get someone's attention.

I live in Oklahoma, and in Oklahoma parents or guardians can, by law, decide who their minor child is allowed to socialize with. Ohio may think they are progressive, but they obviously fail to protect children.

    Best Wishes,

    Sue

first win millions because whether fair or not this is going to be a long and costly battle. if the law as you state permits that the age for consent is 16 then you are ostensibly challenging the law, a law is enacted through a lengthy and time consuming process, you will need to approach either the supreme court or the constitutional court, by arguing that the girl has developmental issues does not in any way invalidate the law, it may act in mitigation, the onus of proof here lies with you to prove or show that as a result of some deficiency- mental or physical the girl does not have the necessary capacity to behave in this manner, you may well be challenging her rights to act in a manner deemed legal by the courts but you wish to present evidence to show why sexual relations in her case may not be appropriate- instead of challenging the law, why not seek guidance or therapy counseling from a family group or body who may be in a position to offer advice and education- it will be cheaper and less daunting than going head to head with a legal bureaucracy.

There isn't a law (even in Ohio) that permits this and there are actually laws to safeguard against it. Call the police to make a report on the 47 year old, he can be held legally accountable and prosecuted for it.

You start with the media. tv preferably. Then thru the local politician; they will be very happy to come after you build up a little support for it.

The you talk to the Attorney General of the State. Ask for a clarification of the consent required of a person w/developmental disablity.

Contact your State representatives and tell them how you feel. Contact a lawyer to ensure that the Police/Prosecutor have not mis-interpreted the existing laws. If no criminal action can be pursued, there may be civil action that can be taken.

Raise hell and get the word out to the local media. Send copies of your letters to them. Contact the local papers and news stations to see if you can find a reported with an ear sympathetic to your cause.

    Good luck.

You should write letters to, and call your state representatives. They're the ones that can actually change the law. Don't give up. This is a fight that could take years. If you write one letter and make one call and don't get a response, write another, and if that doesn't work, write another, and keep doing it until you do get a response.

You could also contact Bill O'Reilly at fox news. protecting children from sexual abuse is one of his biggest issues. maybe you'll get lucky and he'll help you out. If you email him, make it very short and concise. he's not going to read a book.

Why don't you start by talking to her parents?

If that doesn't work then try minding your own business.

Why would you want the government to get involved in something like that? She is 16 for christ's sake. You have to cut the embilical cord at some point. The bottom line here though is that if she isn't your daughter, its none of your business.

Check with an attorney, because depending on the level of disability, there may be something you can do in this case.

Start petitions and involve your local media. Its alot of work but laws have been changed this way in the past. (i.e Florence Holiway, NH)
