Is a community college elementary piano course appropriate for a 15-year-old?
I'm planning to take a piano class, and I want to invite my sister-in-law to take it with me. I've done music before (music theory and saxophone), and she's done voice work in church. She's homeschooled, so she can't take a school class. Do you think that a community college class would be an appropriate class for her, or should I look for other options (such as a city rec department or private business)?

I would say that it would be ok. When I took some classes at my community college, i was still in high school (I was 16 at the time), so i think it would be fine. I took voice lessons there, and the guy that was right before me had to be 14. If your town has a PSEO program there, there probably is quite a few people there her age, plus you will be there, so I don't see a problem. I'm sure she would have a great time.
Hope this helps

My fifteen year-old son is sitting not 5 feet from me, playing XBOX-Live with his friends while I use his computer. He's slightly taller than me, with hair that lays in soft waves, and which really needs trimmed but he refuses a cut. He's thin, painfully so, and can't weigh more than 130 pounds. He and his friends are searching for glitches on the new Rainbow 6 game he bought yesterday, and from what I can tell they are having a wonderful time. His Easter candy is in a bowl between his feet, and his bedroom floor is littered with Starburst wrappers. He knows I'm tucking some cash into his wallet for a planned trip to Pittsburgh on Monday, and he's done nothing but talk about the clothes he wants to buy at the mall after my doctor appointment. This is what childhood should be. Playing with friends, eating candy and looking forward to a day in the city. Not beating yourself bloody and enduring crucifixion. Just reading this story makes me want to cry.

-First you got to know what they are teaching
-Second, since this is community college class, they will most likely let you watch a class session before you enroll (to see if you like it or if its what you are looking for)
-Any community college will let anyone in, even if you are twelve
-Community college music courses will depend on how good they are, by how many college credits they offer, so yes community college piano classes is pretty cheap for a semester (about $50 for 2 credits, cheap)

Great idea. Community college is a nice, accepting place. All ages are usually quite welcome. It'd probably be lots of fun for her.

How old is your sister-in-law? If she's under 17, it depends. If she's older, yes it is.
