We have both Finklehopper books (excellent), Sandra Boynton and Eric Carle books and I was just looking for some other fun recommendations.

Have you ever read the Critter series of books written by Mercer Mayer? They are very cute and pretty short so they hold their attention. The illustrations are great, and each page has a spider or frog that the child can try to find.

Um, what are those ones about Karl the Rottweiler? No words, just pictures, you make up the storry. They're hard to find, but well worth the effort. I also have a book called HUG by Jez Alborough, it's just beautiful. Also, my son loves the Baby Einstein books with lots of flaps to lift and different textures.

Goodnight Moon, Mr. putter and Tabby, Poppleton, 10 minutes til bedtime, Dr. Suess books, the 11th hour, and Olivia.

  • Other than the fail-safe Dr. Seuss, I always liked books by Kevin Henkes, such as Chrysanthemum. Laura Numeroff wasn't bad either (If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, etc.)

My 2 year old and 4 soon to be 5 year old LOVE Maisy books. They are really easy to read and my 4yr old loves "reading" them to his little sister. He is actually able to read word for word to her well maybe almost word for word!
