How much can an antique bayonet be sold?

My father still keeps with him a bayonet, somewhat like Prussian, which he got during World War II. I think it's about 70 years old or even a century old.

How much is __________ worth? I am not being a smart ***; I am trying to make a point. You cannot get appraisal by looking anything up in a book or web site. If you want an estimate of whatever it, you own Goggle it and look-up the stamp, coin, etc.

A friend of mine recently took as payment for valuable property an 1840 and 1871 Seating Liberty silver dollar. He asked a friend who looked them up on the net. After giving the indiviual the plasma television, he then rushed to the coin store to sale them. Too bad, they were counterfeit!

My mother bless her soul thought a 1960 Barbie was worth money. Which it would if it had not been played with, was in the original carton. Are you starting to see where I am going?

You cannot describe anything which condition is paramount in what it is worth. It MUST be seen!! A coin for example is judged by wear in about 60 categories; are the leaves district, worn are the edges smooth do you think you could describe all these points?

A stamp for example is graded on centering, cancels and gum. Grade describes how well the stamp's design is centered between the perforations, both horizontally and vertically, on the paper, and the condition of the gum for mint stamps, or the effect of the cancellation on used stamps. (or margins in the case of imperforates). Grades are meted out like school exam scores: "superb" all the way, down to "poor”, but an adequate description also addresses all necessary concerns about condition.

A close friend works as a consulate for Civil War items purchased from EBAY and has stated everything has been found to have been counterfeit.

What I am trying to pleasantly trying to tell you is do not waste your time or the answerers here on Yahoo, take whatever it is you are questioning the worth to a professional and get an estimate. Trust me you will not get your hopes up only to be crushed, or ripped off by someone.

God Bless you and Our Southern People.

  • lets say its a real one, u know that Prussian means it must be from ww1 not ww2. to really give you a price i would need to see it in all details but it wont be worth as much as a real bayonet from ww2 and those normally run from 200 to 800$ or more for rare ones.

a lot of factors, apart from being 'old', adds on or lessens the value of an item -- shape, design, 'age', usage, durability, damage..etc. so its hard for us to give you an estimation of the bayonet.

get it to an auction shop instead. they can give you the actual value of antiques.

you could show it to an appraiser too. they officially estimate the worth or value or quality of things/one who determines authenticity (as of works of art) or who guarantees validity. you can start with a telephone directory or a walk around your neighbourhood. Good luck!
