    I think it is a saying for "damn it" which was a bad phrase back then.

    It means darn or dog gone it or Well I'll be. Dagnabit is probably an earlier curse word that was allowed. Not at all like today's television

    It mainly means "Oh darn.", but can mean other things along the same line.

    It's the polite way of saying, "Damn it" without it considered to be swearing.

    these made up words are euphemisms for curses .... or "cus words"
