Sounds like you may have a shin splint type injury, at at the least you are set up for one. Shin splints are caused by injury or inflammation of the tendons, and can also be due to minute fractures of the tibia- the bone in the front part of the lower leg. It's a stress injury common to runners, but ladies can get them from wearing and walking high heel shoes, and you can develop them if you suddenly start walking or running a lot more than usual. The fix involves resting the affected leg, and doing gentle stretches to lengthen and tone the tendons of the leg. Any of the sites for runners and running injuries should give you a good overview on the kinds of exercises you can do. For the pain, aside from rest and ice, you can take Ibuprofen(motrin) which will help with both the pain and the inflammation. Obviously, it's aggrivated by walking and heels- so you want to stay in a flat show and off the feet when possible. If you wear heels higher than 2 inches, which cause you to walk more on the ball of the foot, you might consider a change of shoe for walking. Though heels make the leg look nice, they are rough on the body for walking in. If you really want to wear a pair of higher heels, say for a night out, it's best to wear them only when you are actually on your feet and take them off when you are seated so the foot can flex back into the correct shape and alignment. If you are a runner, you need to rest from running for a bit and reconcentrate on the warmup stretches. Also,if you are a regular runner, it pays to replace your running shoes every 500 miles or so, since the cushion in them wears down and doesn't absorb impact as well. The shock is then referred to the lower leg, and shin splints can result. A visit to the doctor will be in order if the pain doesn't go away or it gets worse, so you and he can fully evaluate the extent of the injury and determine the best treatment/cure. Fortunately shin splints are fairly easily taken care of, usually with just rest, ice and something like Motrin, proper exercise/stretching, and a good pair of running shoes in good shape.

You really need to read "Stop Shin Splints" by Gary Buchenic (also available in electronic format here: http://www.shinsplintscure.org/ ). It's about how to permanently cure your shin splints naturally. Worked for me and for thousands of people. Good luck!

  • As I haven't seen your legs, I can't give you an acurrate answer. But I have a question for you....Do you have a lot of big blue marks on your legs? If so these are called varicose veins. They are the result of poor circulation. I saw on a news program once that rubbing your legs helps to improve the circulation in your legs. Also if you are sitting down wiggle your toes, and rotate your ankles. This also helps the blood circulation in your legs.

to prevent verve damage just do not walk or run at all. your doctor will cover area and take care of it tomorrow. no worries does not sound too bad at all AS LONG as you stop any activity now.
