This is common in many footy codes, as there was a general move to eliminate the violence in the game, with public backlash that kids would try to emulate their idols and would throw haymakers left right and centre. As has been mentioned, most king hits are punches thrown from a position where the recipient cant see them coming, so anyone who throws one is a coward and deserves to be rubbed out of the game. If you're going to hit someone, do it in front of them.
