I am with a volunteer fire department and we have an old 1942 Chevy Pumper, it needs to be retored,need help?

Every parts book I have ever found seems to start with 1947. I had a 1946 Chevy 2 ton and I had a heck of a time finding parts. If I were you I would start with Hemming's auto parts. I had pretty good luck just going to Napa or Big A for mechanical parts. I rebuilt the brakes myself. Save your brake shoes. The core charge on them is about $80.00. So don't throw them. The water pump is the same.

Those are the main two though... you can pretty much build an entire new truck from those if you want too.

an online search for old chevy trucks and parts will yield several suppliers able to give you anything you need. the parts may be new, and some rebuilt, but they are all available as are any manuals you may require.

for some fast info, contact an auto rebuilder for classic cars/trucks. they'll point you in the direction you need. you may even contact chevrolet for some information.

there are all sorts of places that do just like you want to do, restore an old vehicle. even wrecking yards can have parts, and listings of hard to find parts and part dealers. most have web sites which list hard to find parts for out-of-state dealers and re-builders.
