Getting my hair done by an acquaintance?

A friend of a friend is a professional and is coming to my house to foil some highlights into my hair while some other girls hang out as well. She hasn't given me the price yet but I'm sure she'll charge me enough to make a profit.

Is it appropriate or inappropriate for me to tip her on top of what she is already charging?

If you are pleased at the end result then I would give her more....she will say 'Oh no, there is no need' and then you can say 'no, really, you have done me a favour and I love it'. After all, coming to your house has saved you having to take time out in the day and has done you a favour. That way, you will feel fine about asking her again and she will be happy to.

I think that you should figure out the typical price in a salon, for the same look add 15%. That includes the price plus 15% tip covers the traveling costs.

    Don't get scammed!

Best of Luck and God Bless!

  • She shouldnt be charging you at all! It is illegal for her to be doing that in the first place. In certain states she can perform services on you at your home only if she does NOT charge. But if she does charge you, she has to have certain licenses and certifications to go into peoples homes and perform services. IF she is certified to do it, then maybe a tip if you are happy with what she did. What she is doing is 'kitchen cosmetology'. Go to a salon, have it done right!

Well whenever anybody does my hair i always tip them you just have to make sure you have enough money, i mean unless you're spending your last just to get your hair done which you shouldn't do but if you have enough money to get your hair doesn't you should have a couple extra dollars to give a tip.

At a salon I ALWAYS tip. If she is providing all of the products (hair coloring, shampoo, conditioner) then I would say go ahead and tip. However, if you are providing all of the products, then I would not tip. Good luck!
