Who thinks Oprah should have spent her money on underprivileged Americans?

She just wanted to make up an excuse for doing what she wanted to do all along.
She'll give expensive gifts to American women, but say that American kids are too materialistic to be given any school improvements. Hypocrite.
I wouldn't mind how she spent her money if she would just be honest about her reasons.

It's her money, she should be able to spend it on whatever she wants to. But It would have been very nice of her to help out the underprivileged American people though, since she is an American. But most of the famous people in America are more interested in helping other countries instead for some reason. If I were that rich I would definitely help out people here in America, and I wouldn't do it just for publicity, I would do it because it would make me happy to.

Oprah, in my opinion, is a great humanitarian who deserves praise for her contributions to both our nation (US) as well as other countries. So what if the school she just recently opened is located in Africa? The important thing is that she is helping people--in this case, young, economically-deprived girls--who are in need of assistance, guidance, and a good education. With that said, and for all of those who insist that she should "keep her money close to home," try to think less of where her cash is going and more of the individuals actually benefiting from it--young children!

I get your drift.
But you know, she is fair at gifting of her money. I should emphasize ' her ' money. It is not of course government-derived or non-profit-based, or corporate 'come-on' money.
She does give money to the underpriveleged, for example, for those beset by the Hurricane Katrina debacle. And there are other instances.
Even as a billionaire, she is learning, too.
And with no uncertainty, her efforts in Africa are considerably commendable and noteworthy, for I know of no ' continent ' that has suffered more and undergone so much prejudice by the international community and mistreated by the corporate investment cartels -- flat out racism by all of them.
So hers is more than a mere token... And thankfully she has the media at her dispose to show the world just how nasty it has been as regards Africa.
But, too, here is her balance: she gives to the reasonably priveleged as well -- gifting an entire audience with new automobiles...
So among many things that bug me about her, her philanthropy is not one.

I heard a TV person ask Oprah that question and she said: She does donate lots and lots of money to the poor Americans. But she said it is not discused. She spends millions on the poor Americans.

I think she has a right to spend her money the way she wants to. And how do you know that she has not spent any money on underprivileged Americans?

I would just like to point out that she just started a school in Africa for underprivileged girls.
Besides, it's her money. I wouldn't want people telling me how to spend my money.

Oprah is very kind and generous to lots of people, maybe a few other very rich people should stop buying themselves everything they dint need and just give a little help to others that are not very fortunate.

i do and i think underprivileged kids everywhere deserve education. in my english class we were discussing this, and my teacher said that oprah responded to the question asked. she said that kids in america rather have an ipod than education. thats a little bit racist if you ask me, what if she said that people in asia would rather have chopsticks or something?

Not me. The US has a network of safety nets for the poorest majority, and the depth and prevalence of abject poverty in the Third World is so much more profound than in the US that we are talking about preventable life threatening disease, the gravest malnutrition, lack of basic material belongings that we take for granted, illiteracy that promises no hope for the future and, literally, the difference between life and death.
