We know what is in the past. And if it was unpleasant, we try to escape from it.

Ah, but the future - there's fear of change as well as fear of the unknown. Both these fears can stop us from formulating what we would like to do, see, hear, be. So our own fears can keep us in a 'prison' of sorts - afraid to explore what the possibilities can be.

I know what I don't want, but I don't know what I want. Like if you were dating a girl that was just making you miserable, you'd know you'd want to get rid of her. Then if you thought about it and didn't really know what qualities in a partner would make you happy, this quote could definitely apply.

i like this guy, very deep thinker....hmm...maybe he was running away from a hungry bear in the woods, but didn't know where he was so...hell, i don't know! i'm not good with questions like these.
