Can I safely move a queen size mattress and box spring on top of my car 50 miles? If so, how?

I have a Hyundai Accent and need to move a queen size mattress and box spring 50 miles. I've moved a full size mattress on top of the car before easily. Do you think it is safe and/or possible to move a queen size mattress on top of it? If so, how would be the best way of strapping it down?

i mechanic for a living, and yes you can do it,but you need to have it tied down real secure on the top of the car,,if they stop you,,all there going to do is check and see how secure it is,,i doubt that you,ll get stopped ,,but if so, have it tied with the ratchet type draw straps,,and you,ll be alright,,i had one on top of my car for a long time from a move,,and never even got stopped,as long as it doesn't obstruct your vision ,,they wont say anything,,good luck hope this help,s.

If you have some type of rack, that would be the best way. If you don't and intend to just strap it to the car, be very careful to protect your paint where the strap has contact with the car. I moved a mattress and didn't protect the contact point and my car's paint job was rubbed thru by the strap.

    Good Luck!

If for some reason this attempt to tie your box spring and mattress onto the roof of your car fails, you lose a lot of money if it flies off, is broken and ruined, and you may end up in court being sued for damages as well.

I would pay to have it delivered. That way THEY are responsible for getting it safely to you.

    And...........no problems!

If you have to move it that way, I would put the mattress on first and secure very tightly with ratchet / movers belts. The box spring is more difficult.. you need to put on top of the mattress and tripple secure on all sides otherwise the wind may lift it off.

I advise against it. It is very dangerous to tie something that large to the top of your car and drive with it more than a few blocks. Find someone with a pickup truck or a trailer to haul it that far.

No not really because we tried tying an board on are Isuzu and the board almost flew off while you are driving it may left up and down

Open your doors before you strap it down. Roll your windows down before you shut the door. Once the doors are shut you can roll them back up.

crack both rear windows buy a role of clothes line rope throw it on top and wrap the heck out of it.......... i moved one on top of a chevette, dont go over 55mph

  • make sure you tie a rope lenthwise bumper to bumper, and leave it back far enough that you can see out your window.Otherwise lotsa rope, lotsa rope.
