Joining curves?

I am thinking about joining curves... the thing is, I don't need to lose weight- I just need to tone up. I am at a healthy weight but I just don't have the muscle strength that I should. I would just like to learn how to do some strength training and would like to do aerobic exercise and feel like I would be more comfortable at Curves with other women. Is this the right place for me? Someone told me that it was just for people trying to lose weight and that I should just join a regular gym.

Any excercise is good excercise. Be aware that Curves is owned by evangelical Christians and they heavily contribute to anti-abortion causes. If that bothers you, there are many other programs.

No that is not true. Joining Curves isn't just for losing weight, you can tone there too. My Mom and I were going to join it together but their hours are so messed up its hard to even go because you have a job, school, stuff like that and it gets in the way. Just go to Walmart, Sports Authority, Target, places like that, and by some weights. Tone up at your own home. You can even do it while watching T.V. Just grab a weight and start lifting it. It shouldn't take you long. Good Luck!

There are some more serious "women only" gyms around. Do some research and you will find them. Curves is based on a 30 minute circuit which, according to many fitness gurus, is fine for starters but will not be sufficient once you become more advanced. Also, the routine is set so you cannot concentrate on targeting problem areas.

I joined there for the same reason....to tone up. I really don't need to lose any weight at all.

I really like it because it's fun. And it's a good enough workout to tone up!
