Do squirrels eat wood?

I swear I just saw one scurry away from my wooden landscaping posts and I looked out and there seems to be damage. Say it ain't so.

They don't really eat wood, but they will chew. All rodents have a need to chew because their teeth continue to grow as they age (which is the origin of "long in the tooth" meaning "old people").

I don't think they eat wood and especially treated wood. They may knaw through wood to widen an opening to get inside where it is warmer. Get some ear corn to put out for them and they will leave your posts alone.

no they eat nuts. they do gnaw on things and if you ever somehow let one in your house they will chew they're way into the walls and destroy the wiring. very, very bad.
