If someone answers a Q with "Honestly, I...<answer>" does that lead you to think they weren't honest before?

Especially with respect to job interviews, the common wisdom that answering a question with "Frankly..." or "Honestly..." is a bad idea because it will lead the other person to think that you've "just now gotten around to being honest."

Personally, I think that's hooey and that others don't really think that. After all, who hasn't had something that they didn't really want to discuss ("why did you leave your job after only a year?") in an interview because they were embarrassed, etc., but still knew they had to come clean about whatever detail it was?

What do you think? If someone answers a question with "Well, frankly..." do you think that means they've been dishonest before that answer?

Seems to me these phrases (ie Honestly, I think....) have just become a standard way of beginning an answer and trying to qualify it with a statement of thought. I don't really think people pay much attention to the phrase itself as it just doesn't seem to carry any weight anymore through overuse. :)

Well, frankly I don't think so.
