Why do people come here as opposed to using Wikipedia?

Because people like giving the thumbs down to answers they don't like, be it right or wrong.

Most answers on here can be answered with the Internet in general. But, Wikipedia and Yahoo Answers are two seperate services. Why go to a librarian if the answer is in the library? The answer is, you may not know where to find it. People ask questions here because they don't know how, where or have the time to search for the answer themselves. This service helps guide people in the right direction to find answers.

wikipedia is the coolest of course but its better to ask when someone knows exactly what you are talking about than have you search through a whole article to find the answer you are lookin for. u r askin a person and not a computer when you use yahoo answers. Could wikipedia answer this question????

People seem to like to hear everyone else's opinion rather than have the exact truth. On here you can be a lot more specific and get a very large variety of answers in one place instead of numerous websites.

That is true- but this site is good for asking opinions, you get more personalized answers to your questions. And then if you are bored during the day at work it provides an excellent time killer ;-)

What they are really after is someone to "talk" to. You get to connect with someone and have them answer your question as well.

We have to admit, we are a social being.

......and of course, others are too lazy to look up the answer for themselves. :)
