Seriously people. It couldn't have been Sirius, he was in Azkaban at the time. Don't be dumb.

The note left with the cloak isn't signed, but since Dumbledore is the only person at Hogwarts at the time who knew Harry's father, it's assumed that the Headmaster left it for Harry.

And yes, in the US version of the book, the title is "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," but the *original* title is the UK version: "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone." The Philosopher's Stone is part of the alchemy legend and was a product of the alchemical process of turning lead into gold. The American publishers believed American children would be less familiar with the legend of the Philosopher's Stone and chose to change the title to "Sorcerer's Stone" to make it sound more fantastic.

    Christ.

Its the Sorcerer's Stone just for heads up

Dumbledore gave it to him because Harry's father gave it to Dumbledore and said that he should give it to Harry when the time was right

Sirius Black I thought. Hmmm, you must not be from the United States. Over here the book was titled "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone". Kinda like we are too dumb to know what a philosopher is or something.

Harry's dad left the cloak with Dumbledore for safe keeping. It was Dumbledore who gave it to Harry.

    Dumbledore

The cloak did indeed once belong to Harry's dad. He gave it to Dumbledore for safekeeping, so it was Dumbledore who gave it to Harry NOT Sirius Black. It talks about this at the end of the first book when Harry is in the hospital wing recovering and Dumbledore comes to visit him. Harry asks him if he knows who gave it to him and Dumbledore says "you're father happened to leave it in my possession and I thought you might like to have it."

I love this movie, I never read the book, but always thought that Professor Dumbledor gave it to him. He was the only one that always knew when Harry was around, when he wore the cloak.

His dad left the cloak with someone for safe-keeping. That person then gave it to Harry, as his dad's heir. It's obvious that that person was Professor Dumbledore.

Harry's dad past the cloak down to him, but it was given to him by Dumbledore who sent it by owl.

[and it's Harry Potter and the -Sorcerer's- Stone]
