what do they use to measure the wind speed in mph? I know they can measure how fast a car is going or how fast someone throws a baseball with a radar... but what is used to measure the wind speed?

by using a wind anemometer(:
it has 3-4 cups rotating on a rod, and a dial below that shows the speed in mph! :D
hope it helps!

A barometer measures air stress no longer wind speed. Air speed is measured in an plane by applying potential of a pitot tube feeding air right into a vacuum pushed airspeed indicator. There are quite a few measurements for airspeed, i.e. actual airspeed, relative airspeed, calibrated airspeed, and so on. that's substantial for a pilot to understand the exterior airspeed and direction of the wind so as that he can calculate his speed over the group and degree the quantity of stages on the compass he's being pushed from the direction over the floor he desires to persist with so he can alter the direction he steers to reach on the right factor on the top of his flight. Meteorologists degree air speed with an anometer. this suggestion is utilized in predicting how speedy climate structures are moving over the floor and wherein direction they're moving.
