Does anyone remember using fountain pens in school?
I went to catholic school and in the final two years of intermediate we had to use ink pens. They use to make big messes in our books and on our fingers. It really bugged me we had to use ink pens for two years, when practically all other schools used ball points. Why did teachers feel we needed to use ink pens in the early 1980's and why did the stationery shops supply so many of them.

Honey, I remember using dip pens: that's right, ink in the inkwell and the whole bit. I mean, that wasn't our usual pens. But we had to learn how as part of penmanship. We used ballpoint pens, too, but they were crude and left these cloggy smears. So when you wanted to impress the teacher with how nicely you wrote, you used a fountain pen. I had one with a gold nib inherited from my grandfather. Wonder what ever became of that pen?

It was just like when DVD players were introduced. People still sell video tapes because people are reluctant to change. We like our habits. I still have the problem with inky hands though. I'm left handed so any time I use an ink pen I write through my ink. My pinky finger is always black! :) I never had to use fountain pens though. That would have been terrible for a lefty!

I used it a long time ago. Well, think of it as a tool to teach you patient. Fountain pen is a nice writing tool for calligraphy. The ink flows continuously until there is no more.

I still have my great grand-fathers" Parker" pen with me.
I used to take it to School and friends too liked using it because handwriting was always better than with the ball point .
